Position Paper July 2026

Digital Visibility of Bicycles in the Euro NCAP 2029 Protocol

In a new position paper, the Coalition for Cyclist Safety calls on Euro NCAP to reward vehicles that can receive and act on standardized V2X messages from cyclists. Around 1,900 to 2,000 cyclist fatalities occur each year on EU roads, and roughly 65% involve collisions with motor vehicles. The paper sets out a phased pathway for 2029 and 2032 that stays technology-neutral, letting Euro NCAP create an early market incentive ahead of legislation and giving the automotive and bicycle industries a clear framework to build on.

A World First: Canyon and nfiniity Unveil the Roadlite:ON V2X

Coalition members Canyon and nfiniity have built the Roadlite:ON V2X, the first high-performance urban e-bike to fully implement the latest automotive connectivity standard. The newly unveiled bike lets bikes and vehicles sense one another even without a direct line of sight, alerting the rider through the handlebar grips and surfacing bikes on in-vehicle displays.

Coalition for Cyclist Safety at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig

The Coalition for Cyclist Safety took part in the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, where the Coalition had the opportunity to show why greater cyclist safety is a key enabler of sustainable mobility, climate goals, and Vision Zero. The Coalition also used the event to show that early, tangible use cases are essential for building acceptance and achieving the market penetration this technology needs. The Coalition for Cyclist Safety leaves Leipzig with valuable ideas, new connections, and real momentum for a safer, more connected, and more inclusive mobility system.

Within the Coalition for Cyclist Safety’s large scale deployment workstream, V2Xperience is bringing cooperative ITS technology onto real streets and real intersections in Helmond, creating a real-world environment where cities, industry, researchers, and cyclists can test, learn, and advance connected mobility together. Spectrum FiftyNine, SWARCO, Gazelle, the City of Helmond, and SmartwayZ.NL are creating an open testing and learning environment focused on advancing cyclist safety through connected mobility technologies.

Event Report: Amsterdam 2025

The Coalition for Cyclist Safety held its inaugural face-to-face event in Amsterdam, bringing together leaders from the automotive, cycling, and V2X technology sectors united by a shared mission to make roads safer for cyclists. Live demonstrations featuring Spoke, Audi, Volkswagen, Bosch, and Commsignia demonstrated V2X technology’s safety potential, while strategic workshops produced concrete action plans for accelerating deployment worldwide.
